There was a different feeling in the air as a crowd of supporters filled the stands of Falcon Stadium for the first home game of the 2019 season. Many games have been played on the field but that night felt a little different. Perhaps it was the magnificent stadium wrap that adorned the bleachers holding students, parents, alumni and adoring fans. It could have been the giant banners that displayed the faces of proud Falcon seniors. Whatever it was, there was no question about what was on the minds of the varsity football team and coaches…getting another win!
And win they did. The Falcons broke a losing streak and first-year coach Leroy Hood got his first home victory as the Falcons defeated the Lithonia Bulldogs 32-14. “It was a great home win to start out,” Coach Hood told the Marietta Daily Journal. “It was good to get things going and hopefully this will help us moving forward.”
Jaquavious Jones finished with 18 carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Nyquat Lett finished 10-for-18 with 171 yards and one touchdown. Receiver Jacquez Coleman had five receptions for 94 yards and added a touchdown as well.
On the defensive side, Trennon Mitchell had an interception, Kentavious Foreman, Nick Jones, Chris Rogers, David Scott and Donald Figgs recorded sacks, while John Floyd, Quincey Miller and Chris Rogers each recovered fumbles.
Coach Hood was looking forward to the game as well as the atmosphere that was awaiting the team after being on the road for three straight games. He simply had this to say…“It’s good to be at home.”
