Anticipation was in the air as fans started to arrive at Kay Jackson Gym on the Pebblebrook campus to take part in the first round of the 2-7A State Championship game against Collins Hill.
As the game started Collins Hill looked as if they were a good match-up for the Falcons, but they were quickly brought back to reality. Senior Mervin James was done letting them have fun. “This was the first playoff game. I didn’t want to go home,” Mervin told reporters on Saturday night. “My fire made me keep going.”
That fire bled over to the other teammates leading the Falcons to a 79-56 victory over Collins Hill and ending their season. “Mervin is the motor that gets the engine going,” said coach George Washington. Mervin James finished with 22 points, Dwight Murray with 19, Grant Howard had 14 and Josh Graham had 12.
Pebblebrook, now 25-2, advanced to the second round of the games and will host Region 4-7A runner-up Roswell on Thursday 2/22/18.
